Web 3.0 – Can it Get it Any Better?

What is Web 3.0?  It is a term that is starting to make headlines over the past few years and with the social engagement of Web 2.0. I thought really how can it get any better than what we have now?

Web 3.0   is defined by Daniel Nations, former Guide, as the Semantic web.

The Web 3.0 Semantic Web  “There is already a lot of work going into the idea of the Semantic web, which is a web where all information is categorized and stored in such a way that a computer can understand it as well as a human.

The Semantic web makes search engines smarter. Web 3.0 will help in understanding what we need instead of what we think we want. Currently  when we  search for something on-line it is based on our keywords. Once our keywords are entered, several sites will come up with those words in them.

What Web 3.0 will do is provide the reader with the information that can sifted through the computer through artifical intelligence and  precision, the information that you are looking for will be focused and targeted towards you.

For example, when you are  planning an evening out- now you  have to page through a series of websites -just to figure out what restaurant you want to go to. If you wanted to go to see some music you would have to look around to see who’s playing and if you weren’t sure how to get there, you need to get directions. You would start your search all over again.

Soon you will be able to type in exactly the type of evening that you want into your computer and the computer will do the research for you. The results of your search is based on your history of where you have been on-line.  It tailors the search based on your personal preferences.

Imagine  telling your computer that exactly what you want and with a click of button, it comes back with exactly what you were looking for.

Web 3.0 will save you hours of research by organizing all the data for you. Search engines will understand who you are, what you’ve been doing and what you are going to be doing next.

Web 3.0 is a phrase coined by John Markoff of the New York Times in 2006, which refers to a supposed third generation of Internet-based services that collectively comprise what might be called ‘the intelligent Web’.

Will the machine do the surfing for us?  We are definitely headed in that direction, we will have to wait and see.
